Course intent
As we celebrate 100 years of Surrealism, this Life-Drawing session explores the human figure in all sorts of absurd, strange and surreal poses. From everyday objects to foods, mask and more, expect the figure nude and clothed in strange settings. In addition to the surreal, we will explore abstraction as we create interesting compositions and images of the figure.
What will I learn?
You will learn:

- How to set up an interesting pose
- Composition
- Approaches to recording tone, line and shape
- Gesture drawing
- The figure interacting with objects
- Mark-making for expressive images of the moving figure
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This is a mixed ability class, so all are welcome.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
• A2 white cartridge paper
- A2 newsprint
- A3 tracing paper
- Variety of pencils (at least HB 2B and 4B)
- Pastels (chalk and/or/ oil)
- Some other coloured tools (coloured pencils, markers, random pens you already have)
- Pencil Sharpener
- Graphite stick
- White chalk
- Willow charcoal
- Compressed charcoal
- A Rubber
- Board clips or masking tape
What can I do when I finish the course?
Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL.
